Our locally-owned animal hospital is led by Dr. Kamal Walia, who brings over 50 years of experience in veterinary medicine. As a proud member of the Tacoma community, Dr. Walia understands the financial challenges families face. Affordable Animal Hospital was founded on the belief that cost should never stand in the way of a pet’s health and comfort.

About Dr. Kamal Walia
Dr. Walia began his journey in veterinary medicine with his graduation in 1971 from the College of Veterinary Medicine in Pantnagar, India. With a passion for advancing his knowledge, he moved to Canada to pursue graduate studies in Physiology at the University of Alberta. During this time, he also joined the School of Medicine in Alberta as a Research Associate at the Surgical Medical Research Institute, contributing two years of dedicated work to cutting-edge medical research.
In 1976, Dr. Walia successfully passed the rigorous Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) exam, an achievement that paved the way for his transition to clinical practice in the United States. Following this, he completed a one-year internship in Las Vegas in 1977, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
Dr. Walia’s dedication and expertise were further recognized when he passed the National Board Exam in 1978, ranking in the top 6% of all candidates nationwide. That same year, he earned his Washington State Veterinary License, establishing his professional base in the state where he has practiced ever since.
Over the years, Dr. Walia has made a profound impact on the veterinary community in Pierce County and surrounding areas. With a career spanning decades, he has served more than 150,000 clients, providing compassionate and expert care to countless animals.
Dr. Walia’s enduring commitment to excellence and his deep connection to the community have solidified his reputation as a trusted and skilled veterinarian. His legacy of service and dedication continues to inspire trust and confidence among his clients.
